As for speech and such, you do very well here. You speak clearly and rarely lose step with what you are talking about. The only thing I have to say is that I would have liked to see more of the artifact that you are working with. Your theory is very interesting, but I was not sure what you were talking about with the Obama video so I would have liked to see a clip of that or of some other artifact that you may be using.
Thanks a lot Lacey for commented on my video! I do plan on showing my artifact so that the audience can see what the project is talking about. What I'm trying to do with the artifact is show how race is very much present in the minds of Americans. I decided to use the Obama speech simply because it incorporated all the aspects that i look at in my paper, visual cognition of race, racial identity, race in politics, and the views of race as an ever present aspect of American culture. what i think i need help on is letting me know what aspects are unclear and what parts of my theory and project are too vague or too separate from the main idea in place. So please let me know what you think... be critical i can take it :)
Amanda - As always, you speak very clearly and knowledgeably about the subject you are presenting. You exhibit clear knowledge about the racial theories you discuss, and I think the summaries flow well. However, in order to give people a more visual connection of what you are talking about, I think showing the Obama video after you give your introduction would be a great way to keep your audience focused and connected with your presentation. I think it would have been much easier for me to follow you if I could have visually linked the Obama video to your theories during the presentation.
Great work...I would like to see you break down these theories you are citing by the video, the website, and the responses to the videos...It will be interesting to see the connect between the theories of cognition in children and how they play out in the adult political agenda...Your explanation here is good, but long winded, I do follow you though and that is what counts...Organization and point summary will help the audience get your point...In order for the audience to stay connected and interested you want to present the point with visuals and then explain...of course your final presentation will be da bomb! Good luck! (oh yeah, you tend to smack your mouth girl;)
Really great topic! The beginning of your speech reminded of a video clip a watched in a psychology class a few semesters ago. I can't remember the name of it but I was about children showing traits of discrimination early on in life. There were a few kids all different races and they were shown pictures of woman also of different races and they were asked to picture which one they would want to be their teacher. The picture of the White woman gained the most votes( because they thought she was the smartest and prettiest) while the picture of the African American woman gained the least votes. I was amazed that the children, who were clearly under the age of ten shows discrimination. I definitely think it is a learned behavior and that children should be exposed to difference races and find the beauty in different culture. I kinda going on and on lol Anyway, I looked forward to your presentation. You showed knowledge of the material and your speech was very clear. I agree with Leah A.-you should show the clip of Obama after your introduction. It's straight to the point and it will keep the audience interested.
